Best For
  • Capturing volatile memory from a live Windows computer during triage or live response
  • Preserving evidence that may only exist in RAM, such as running processes, network connections, malware artifacts, registry hives, usernames, passwords, decrypted files, and keys
  • Running from external media with a relatively small footprint on the target system
  • Using a command-line silent mode when minimizing user-visible activity matters
  • Adding a lightweight RAM collection option to a broader Windows response workflow

Magnet RAM Capture is a free Windows memory-acquisition tool built to preserve volatile evidence from a live system. It captures physical RAM so investigators can recover artifacts that may never be written to disk, including running processes, network connections, malware traces, registry hives, credentials, decrypted material, and other in-memory activity.

The tool exports memory in raw formats such as .DMP, .RAW, and .BIN for follow-on analysis in platforms such as Magnet AXIOM. It can be run from external media and also offers command-line options for a quieter, lower-visibility collection workflow when minimizing on-screen activity matters.

Magnet RAM Capture is best suited for Windows live response and volatile-evidence preservation. It is not a full forensic suite, not a memory-analysis platform by itself, and should be described conservatively because Magnet’s dedicated RAM Capture page reflects an older release.
